Veterans Day originally was named Armistice Day and was founded on November 11, 1919. Armistice represents an agreement or a truce made by opposing sides in a war, and this date stamped the first anniversary ending WWI. Armistice Day became a proper national holiday in 1938 and was later amended in 1954 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to incorporate all veterans.
