Mazda CX-9 Safety Rating

The Mazda CX-9 Achieved A “Good” Score – And That’s Great
When the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) decides on the safest vehicles, there are a few important factors that are considered. Vehicles undergo a variety of impact tests to see how different components will hold up against collisions. Recently, the IIHS created a more rigorous side crash test to assess how high-severity crashes will affect the 2021-2022 model year vehicles when they are hit from the side. IIHS announced the results on May 18th, 2022, placing the 2021-22 Mazda CX-9 in the top spot! Preston Mazda is proud to be your Mazda CX-9 source near Easton, MD, so reach out to our friendly team if you are interested in taking a test drive of this IIHS 2022 Top Safety Pick+.
2021-22 Mazda CX-9 Safety Rating
When put up against the demanding IIHS tests, the 2021-22 Mazda CX-9 safety ratings were a standout. Not only did the Mazda CX-9 place top in the side impact test, but the Mazda CX-9 achieved a “Good” rating in the difficult driver pelvis injury category, joined by only two other models. In fact, the Mazda CX-9 safety ratings were “Good” in every category, an impressive feat only one other midsize SUV was able to achieve. Of course, we can’t talk about the new side impact test without mentioning the 2021-22 Mazda CX-5, the only model in the small SUV category to land a “Good” score. In a recent Mazda press release,* Mazda Manager of Vehicle Safety, Compliance, Planning, & Development, Jennifer Morrison, was quoted stating, “Our research has led us to thoughtfully consider the body structure of our vehicles,” and that Mazda is “proud to offer [their] consumers the highest level of protection in the event of a crash.” Learn more about the well-deserved Mazda CX-9 safety ratings at your local Mazda dealer.

New Mazda Plug-In Hybrid Rotary Engine
The Mazda MX-30 EV Plug-In Hybrid: The Return Of The Rotary Engine
A new generation Mazda MX-30 EV has been confirmed, a plug-in hybrid featuring a rotary engine. As you may know, this is not the first time Mazda has experimented with rotary engines. The Mazda RX-8 discontinued production in 2012, leaving fans wondering whether or not they’d ever see a rotary engine under the hood of a Mazda again. With a few notable changes, however, Mazda has reinvented the concept to power the upcoming Mazda MX-30 EV. Discover how the Mazda MX-30 EV Plug-in Hybrid’s rotary engine will work and the improvements it makes to the range of the previous Mazda MX-30 EV with the team at Preston Mazda.
What We Know
This new engine will not run like your typical rotary engine, driving power to the wheels. Instead, the rotary engine will serve as a generator and charge the batteries. According to research by Jared Rozenholtz at Carbuzz, there are a couple different directions Mazda could potentially take with the battery & rotary engine on the Mazda MX-30 EV Plug-in Hybrid. If Mazda continues to use the same 35.5kWh battery that gives the current Mazda MX-30 EV its 100 mile range, it is estimated that the rotary engine range extender could add 80 more miles.* Rosenholtz suspects that Mazda could potentially increase the range by another 150 miles, given the right technology.* However, Mazda has not confirmed their official plans for the Mazda MX-30 EV Plug-in Hybrid’s rotary engine. What we do know is that the new Mazda MX-30 EV will feature suicide doors! Learn more at your local Mazda dealer.Next In Store
We should receive more information regarding the new Mazda MX-30 EV Plug-in Hybrid’s rotary engine. Back in the age of the Mazda RX-8, Mazda tested out the rotary engine technology with hydrogen combustion engines. Do you think they should continue this research and attempt to turn the Mazda MX-30 into a zero-emissions vehicle? Reach out to Preston Mazda and let us know what you think about the upcoming Mazda MX-30 EV Plug-in Hybrid.*Carbuzz, April 22, 2022
The Upcoming Mazda CX-70
Mazda CX-70: More Luxurious Than Ever
By now you know that Mazda has a new lineup of SUV models in the works. The Mazda CX-50 and Mazda CX-60 are already well underway, but another spacious SUV is on the horizon. Rumors have begun to fly about the upcoming Mazda CX-70. Slotting between the Mazda CX-50 and the Mazda CX-9, the Mazda CX-70 is anticipated to provide drivers with a luxurious and sophisticated driving experience. There’s not much information out yet about the Mazda CX-70 release date or specifics, but the Preston Mazda team is happy to provide you with everything we know so far.
Coming Soon
According to Car and Driver, drivers can expect all Mazda CX-70 models to come standard with all-wheel drive. Speculation says that the SUV will be available with either an inline-six gasoline engine with a 48-volt hybrid system or a plug-in-hybrid engine. It has been estimated that the inline-six gasoline engine will produce over 300 horsepower. The plug-in-hybrid powertrain is expected to be the same as the Mazda CX-60, allowing for 323 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. The SUV will feature Mazda’s new platform, potentially allowing for both rear- and all-wheel drive. The Mazda CX-70 will also look similar to the Mazda CX-60, but with a wider stance. We expect the SUV to provide optimum performance, smooth handling, and refined Mazda CX-70 interior features that will make every drive feel luxurious.

Mazda has decided to add a whole new vehicle to their lineup: the CX-50. The details surrounding this new model to the Mazda brand were announced on November 15th. It has been stated by Mazda’s North American Operations President and CEO, Jeff Guyton, that the intention behind the vehicle is to attract those who enjoy the outdoors along with those who like to explore different terrains.
Customers looking to purchase a 2023 CX-50 will be given the choice of either a NA 2.5 or 2.5T engine. Later, Mazda plans to offer the CX-50 in both an Electrification and Hybrid engine versions as well. Confidence-Driven Technologies
Designing the ideal ride is where Mazda engineers’ passion stands. When driving a Mazda, some key qualities that come to mind are performance, safety, handling, comfort, and experience. Preston Mazda wants to share with you insight into a modern advancement known as the Mazda Active Driving Display System and how it unifies these characteristics. Continue reading to learn more about this awe-inspiring technology that helps create the ideal driving environment.
What Does It Do?
So, what is the Mazda Active Driving Display? Well, this intuitive feature is designed to project important driving, navigation, and safety information, such as vehicle speed, blind control monitoring, and cruise control settings onto the windshield, so you always stay looking ahead. The Mazda Active Driving Display system is transparent, so it doesn’t obstruct the view, similar to what pilots use to view aircraft specifics without looking down at their controls. It displays helpful information right above the instrument cluster, including Lane-Keep Assist and the available Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR). TSR uses the Forward Sensing Camera to identify and detect speed limit signs, stop signs, no-entry signs, and more to inform you of precautions ahead.

Consciously Navigating
Jinba Ittai is the Japanese phrase that describes a synchronic relationship between the horse and the rider, and intentional technology is at the core of every Mazda model. For example, the Mazda Active Driving Display system does just that by providing critical driving details directly in the driver’s view, helping keep their eyes on the road. If you’re wondering how to use the Mazda Active Driving Display, all you have to do is start the ignition of one of the state-of-the-art Mazda models in our inventory. Each setting for the active driving display can be adjusted on the center display by selecting the settings icon on the home screen.
