It’s Official: All Mazda Vehicles Tested Have
Earned The 2022 IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick+’ Award
As announced in a Mazda USA press release in September 2022, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 crossover is officially on the list of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) ‘Top Safety Pick+’ winners.* Along with the 2023 Mazda3 Sedan, the 2023 Mazda3 Hatchback, the 2023 Mazda CX-30, the 2023 Mazda CX-5, and the 2023 Mazda CX-9, each Mazda vehicle tested was given this prestigious title. We’ll discuss all the reasons why the 2023 Mazda CX-50 was recognized as a 2022 IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick+,’ but you can visit the Preston Mazda team if you are interested in purchasing your own.

Safety Is Key
In order to be acknowledged by the IIHS as a ‘Top Safety Pick+,’ a model must excel by earning good ratings in six crashworthiness tests:
- Driver-side small overlap front
- Passenger-side small overlap front
- Moderate overlap front
- Original side
- Roof strength
- Head restraint
When it comes to the 2023 Mazda CX-50, the front prevention system proved superior in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian scenarios. The crossover also has good or acceptable headlights standard on every trim level, which truly secured its fate as an IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick+.’
